Fly Beyond the Mountains: Afghanistan Kite Making
closedRegistrations are
Come join us for a colorful and creative kite-making activity inspired by the traditions of Afghanistan! In Afghanistan, kite flying is a national pastime enjoyed by people of all ages. In Dari, one of the main languages spoken in Afghanistan, the word for kite is guiparan, which means “flying doll.”
In this activity, children will design and build their own kites using bright colors, patterns, and artwork inspired by the rich cultural traditions of Afghanistan. After decorating their kites, they’ll assemble them and get ready to watch them dance in the wind just like the guiparan seen across the skies of Afghanistan. It’s a fun and meaningful way to explore the beauty of Afghanistani traditions while expressing creativity through art!
